What is an AI PROMPT?
In artificial intelligence, a prompt is the specific input—text, images, or code—that you give to an AI model to guide its response. Or, more simply put, a prompt is a specific instruction used to provoke an action, spark a creative response, or guide a process.
In the context of information seeking, a prompt can range from a simple question (like a traditional search engine query) to a complex set of constraints, including the desired persona, format, target audience, and explicit rules for the answer.

I wanted to know where one of my classes at Westfield State University was located for a class I am teaching in the fall.

Because generative AI predicts patterns based on training data, the prompt acts as a steering wheel; clear, contextual prompts yield accurate results, while sloppy prompts can cause hallucinations.
