Do you want to go deeper into the world of AI?
Then you need to read Ray Kurzweil's new book: "The Singularity is Nearer When We Merge with AI."
EDM.net says about Kurzweil's newest book: " In spite of this prediction of AGI level by 2029, and what that will unleash, Kurzweil thinks the final level of advancement from AGI to The Singularity will take another sixteen years, from 2029 to 2045. That is largely because of how Kurzweil defines The Singularity as a hybrid state of human AI merger, where human minds unite with the “profoundly superhuman” level of AI minds. The unification sought requires the human neocortex to extend into the cloud. This presents great technical and cultural hurdles that will have to overcome.
What does Kurzweil mean by Singularity? He basically states that singularity is that computers would reach human-level intelligence by 2029 and that we would merge with computers and become superhuman around 2045, which he called “the Singularity”.
Kurzweil predicted that the Singularity is Near in his 2005 book of the same name. Now in his current book he is making the case that the time is NEARER.
The Guardian (1) says of Kurzweils's predictions and projections that I have stayed consistent. So 2029, both for human-level intelligence and for artificial general intelligence (AGI) – which is a little bit different. Human-level intelligence generally means AI that has reached the ability of the most skilled humans in a particular domain and by 2029 that will be achieved in most respects.
Kurzweil's "impressive grasp of computing is on display once again in his disjointed and occasionally delusional new book, “The Singularity Is Nearer: When We Merge With AI.” Kurzweil is a refreshingly lucid expositor of complex technical concepts, but he suffers from the shape rotator’s characteristic deficiency: an incapacity to recognize the limits of his own understanding." The Harvard Bookstore says, "In this entirely new book Ray Kurzweil brings a fresh perspective to advances toward the Singularity—assessing his 1999 prediction that AI will reach human-level intelligence by 2029 and examining the exponential growth of technology—that, shortly, will expand human intelligence a millionfold and change human life forever." It's a fairly large book (292 pages) filled with computer jargon and an impressive appendix, notes section and amazingly accurate and long index. I always appreciate an author's effort with his research.
I believe we will begin to see this tome on the New York Times best-seller list soon.
