Lesson#3 AI Development
On July 21, 2023, the White House convened a meeting of seven major technology companies to talk about the future of artificial intelligence technology. I think at this point that I should actually define AI's meaning. According to Wix Encyclopedia, it states:
AI, stands for artificial intelligence, which is a branch of computer science that develops machine systems capable of demonstrating behaviors linked to human intelligence. AI programs use data collected from different data sets to improve the way they mimic human behavior to perform tasks such as creating, learning, planning, knowledge representation, perception, and problem-solving.
The seven companies at this summit were:
- Amazon
- Anthropic
- Inflection
- Meta
- Microsoft
- Open AI (the creator of ChatGPT)
Morning Edition NPR reports that this summit is strictly on a volunteer basis. White House Chief of Staff, Jeff Zients said, "This is a good start, but it's just a start." He is hopeful that other technology players will join this group. He did note that it was on a voluntary basis but the White House is talking directly with Congress to begin creating regulations that make AI have the following attributes:
- Total transparency
- Monitoring the output of biased content
- Develop positive public trust in the technology
- Understanding development and implementation strategies
- Execution of a regulatory process for all current and new technologies
- Most importantly, the creation of a 3rd Party monitoring and review board that will look at current and new AI applications
Zients continued to say that the White House is making plans to release documentation via an executive action notification that begins reining in some of the LLM/AI marketplace, which will be based upon the agreements and findings of the summit; and this will contain policies in how federal workers will be able to use AI in their jobs.
NPR also noted that recently at the GCC + 3 Summit, Biden spoke with his global counterparts about the immediate need to get a world policy settlement on how AI is used through social media.
