Wordle Wow

This is a quickie blog entry to tell you about a fun website called WORDLE.COMMy friend, Marlyn showed this to me and I think it is fun.

As their site says: "Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends."

"Word clouds" are getting more and more popular, and as far as an information architecture is concerned they are somewhat useful bordering on the realm of folksonomies and tagsonomies (sic). According to Wikipedia, the purpose of a word cloud "... is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, or simply the word content of a site, typically used to describe the content of web sites. Tags are usually single words and are normally listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color. Thus, both finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible. The tags are usually hyperlinks that lead to a collection of items that are associated with that tag.
