About Face (book):
According to the WSJ's Deepa Seetharam, Facebook is largely run by algorithms --- not big news, but what was unusual was Facebook's admission that it's 1.6 billion users often go to the gregarious site for news. Says Seetharam, "To decide what to show you on its main news feed, Facebook relies on an algorithm . . . that combs through roughly 100,000 signals and creates a "relevancy score" for each post for a specific user."
Seetharam goes on to say that it's possible that no two users see the same needs feed or tending items. Today NPR went on to say that Facebook actually uses human editors who are given a 25-page editorial directive to make decisions on who gets what news feed. NPR further indicated that Facebook said that they do not base their news choice feed upon political persuasion (i.e. liberal vs conservative). But honestly, knowing how Facebook has run things in the past --- that's hard to believe.
Blowing up Twitter
If Wired Magazine's Julia Greenberg had her way she'd blow-up Twitter --- such as it is. Greenberg suggested in the 24.04 issue that Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey should get with the program and allow Twitterverse to be able to permanently delete their Tweets, or be able to "clear out cache." She goes on to say that people might be more open or forthcoming with their Tweets if they knew that they could permanently remove those that, in a moment of argument, might not be flattering to them in their own Twitter posterity.
Greenberg says, "This is the age of Snapchat, where you send something and poof, it"s gone." I wonder if Greenberg knows that the US Library of Congress captures every Tweet that is sent out there. How would that work then?
My heads in the Clouds --- Something to Note
In the current Target Marketing Magazine there is a great article (Cloud Wars: The Big Picture), that compares and contrast the five biggest and most competitive Clouds. Or, as the magazine;s editor, Torin McGee says, "Welcome to the Cloud Wars! Five major, integrated marketing platforms vying to be your marketing team’s online office. Like any city in the clouds, this one is full of wonders: Giants, golden geese, talking harps."
Adobe vs. IBM vs. Oracle vs. Salesforce vs. HP --- give it a gander!
