Great Technical Blogs (other than mine . . .)
I am starting my blog this year with a series of general thoughts and prognostics. It’s been a while since my last post, I think the longest omission from habit that I’ve had since I started this work. This was mainly due to the hectic teaching schedule that I maintained last semester and I hope to make up for that this year.
For my first blog of the season, I’d like to publish a listing of tech blogs that you can go to when you may be looking for some technical information. These are some of the most popular, which have different raison d’etre’s.
- 1. Mashable — Mashable is a leading source for news, information & resources for the Connected Generation. Mashable reports on the importance of digital innovation and how it empowers and inspires people around the world. Mashable's 40 million monthly unique visitors and 20 million social media followers have become one of the most engaged digital networks in the world.
- Gizmodo — Gizmodo is a design and technology blog. It is part of the Gawker Media network run by Nick Denton and runs on the Kinja platform. The blog, launched in 2002, was originally edited by Peter Rojas, but he was recruited by Weblogs, Inc. to launch their similar technology blog Engadget.
- GigaOM — Gigaom’s purpose is to humanize the impact of technology. Founded in 2006, Gigaom is the leading global voice on emerging technologies. Our blog, research and events humanize technology and provide deep insight on disruptive companies, people and trends.
- ZDNet — ZDNet brings together the reach of global and the depth of local, delivering 24/7 news coverage and analysis on the trends, technologies and opportunities that matter to IT professionals and decision makers. Whatever your role in the IT buying cycle, ZDNet provides support -- from investigating options to optimizing a solution. Whether you want to follow hot topics or emerging trends, or keep up to date with the latest news and events, ZDNet is the destination for professionals seeking to research technology-related issues, and solve business technology problems.
- TechCrunch — TechCrunch is a news website focused on information technology companies, ranging in size from startups to established NASDAQ firms. It was founded by Michael Arrington in 2005. On September 28, 2010, at its TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco, AOL announced that it would acquire TechCrunch. The transaction was rumored to be between $25m and $40m.
