Who's Zooming Who?
Well, it's time to take a look at who's doing the looking. I teach a course called "E-commerce and Marketing Communication." As part of the lecture series that I give I USED TO SAY that online advertising is not a worthy endeavor to pursue as most users look at it as "glorified spam." But over the last four quarters online advertising revenues have gone up and many corporate promotion budgets are beginning to spend more online.
I was trying to figure out what is different? And then I thought WHO all the "newbies" were that are coming on the web. It is certainly true that those 55 and older have been gaining in the ranks lately, which might change the demographic a bit — but the other factor I think about is the amazing increase in online presence from India and China.

If we look at these stats we can see that North America has more than doubled in user growth from 2000 to 2008; whereas Asia has quadrupled in the same time frame. I am not sure how the online ad revenues are calculated, but I will find out and post here soon.
In the meantime, take a look at that chart again. We are definitely not alone anymore. What does this mean for enterprising Americans students who can speak and write Japanese and Cantonese?
Hmmmmmmmmm?
